Christmas in NYC

My daughter is taking her daughter to see Santa today & it's bringing back some good memories for me. Each year, my Mom took us to the North Pole @ Macy's Herald Sq to see Santa, then we'd go to Rockefeller Center & watch the skaters. When we got older, we'd skip Santa & go to the Christmas show @ Radio City. Then, we outgrew going to the city w/our parents & a magical annual trip just kind of disappeared. It was great fun. Anyone else have good memories of Christmas in NYC?

I still have some photo's of my visit to Santa at Bloomindale's on East 59th. Recall Santa being on the top floor near the Toy Dept..

Re: Christmas in NYC

I once had a spinster aunt, who lived and worked in Manhattan. Once a year after high school I would meet her during the Christmas month  in the big city. One year we may have gone to the Radio city music hall to see the Christmas show and the Rockettes. Then another year we would go to Macy's to see all the Xmas displays. She would often buy me a gift from the toy train counter for my display at home. From there we would go take a look at the big tree in Rockefeller Plaza, then trip to Mama Leone's for dinner to make the day complete. She was a great person and when Xmas time roles around I often think of that special day I spent with my Aunt Betty.

Re: Christmas in NYC

kid going to macys on Herald Square to see santa Claus. I also remember that you had to go up the wooden escalator steps (after the metal ones ran out on 5 or 6) to get to Santas.  We took our kids there for several years before we left NYC...great memories.
