Bridgehampton Museum

The Bridgehampton Museum Archives houses the Bridgehampton Museum’s collection of historic photos, documents and works of art including a major collection of the works of artists Helen Hoie and Claus Hoie. The museum’s collection of artifacts includes furniture, decorative arts, household items, textiles, Bridgehampton & Sagaponack family memorabilia, as well as whaling, fishing and farming implements. The collection of historic documents comprises photographs, family bibles, rare books, ledgers, diaries, daybooks, maps, letters, deeds and other historical documents associated with the history of greater Bridgehampton dating from the early 1700s through the 20th century.

Some of the resources made available for academic research include:

• Over 1,300 historical photographs covering everything from circus parades to car races.

• More than 800 Books on United States, New York, Long Island, and local history & genealogy

• Over 300 Historic Books and Bibles, with many of the bibles containing important genealogical information.

• Close to 1,000 decorative arts objects and household items dating from the 18th through 20th centuries.

• Over 100 ledgers, diaries, and daybooks dating from 1730 to the early part of the 20th century, including the records of the Hand Brothers Farm and the Hallock & Pierson Insurance Agency.

• A Letter collection numbering over 300 pieces that deal with everyday life on Long Island, with a particular focus on the lives of members of the Corwith family.

• A clothing and textile collection numbering over 2,100 pieces, most items dating from the late 19th to early 20th century.
