Northport Historical Society
The Northport Historical Society maintains a museum, research library, and Archive in one of two remaining Carnegie Libraries in use on Long Island (the other is used by the Patchogue Historical Society), a landmarked building where artifacts associated with the area's history are curated and displayed. The Archive houses a large and growing collection, continually enhanced by donations from local residents and organizations. Artifacts, textiles, ephemera, maps, books, historic house surveys, biographical materials and photographs related to the area have been preserved. The Photograph Collection comprises over 4,000 images, many of which have already been digitized and cataloged: https://www.northporthistorical.org/the_photo_collection.
In the Carnegie Corner Reference Library, patrons can search the collection of over 3400 historic photos and 4800 historic documents. The Museum also houses a large and growing collection of handicrafts, such as scrap-booking, knitting, sewing, pottery, drawing, and painting, which were acts of exploration for the maker. The Museum also displays a newly refurbished diorama, which depicts the early days of Main Street through its historic buildings.
