Hampton Bays Historical & Preservation Society

The Hampton Bays Historical & Preservation Society was founded in 1994 to preserve, document, and educate the local community on local history. The society is located in the original structure of The Lyzon Hat Shop, which originated as a general store, until owner Walter King renovated the structure in 1911.

The society maintains a collection of family records, genealogies, oral histories and many interesting artifacts that have been preserved for historians and future generations. It is also steward of several restored historic properties: the Prosper King House, the Lyzon Hat Museum, the Canoe Place Chapel and three Southampton Town-owned cemeteries.
