'Sites & Sounds' Nominated for GANYC Apple Award
The Gotham Center’s new podcast series Sites and Sounds has been nominated for The Guides Association of New York City’s 2019 Apple Award for ‘'Outstanding Achievement in Radio Program or Podcast.”
Past awardees include WNYC’s Brian Lehrer Show, The Bowery Boys, and WFUV’s Cityscape.
The series, launched in October of this year, features scholars and experts talking about some of New York City’s most important historical sites and organizations for Open House New York Weekend.
It will be a continuous feature of the annual event, which now draws almost 100,000 people and includes the participation of more than 250 institutions around the city.
The inaugural season features twenty-two episodes, discussing a wide range of places (e.g., the Wyckoff House, African Burial Ground, Old Quaker Meetinghouse, Federal Hall, Edgar Allan Poe Cottage, the Waterfront and NYC Transit museums, United Nations headquarters, Newtown Wastewater Treatment Plant facility). Each recording presents a story or narrative about some participating location or institution, which can be used to supplement in-person visits, or to bring the Open House New York Weekend experience home to anyone unable to see these New York City treasures.
