A Journal of the Plague Year (JOTPY) at Bronx Community College: An Archive of Covid-19
Focus
We focus on documenting impressions and expressions of the COVID pandemic, through curating personal submissions.
History
The BCC Archives has teamed up with Journal of the Plague Year (JOTPY) to contribute stories on their digital archive to collect from communities traditionally underrepresented in historical accounts during the COVID-19 pandemic. JOTPY is a curatorial collaborative begun in 2020 by Arizona State University’s School of Historical, Philosophical, and Religious Studies. The project spans many institutions across the planet and seeks to aggregate their stories.
Collection
An eclectic arrangement of photographs, paintings, prose, and documentary video – with entries more on their way (e.g., artbooks, audio recordings, and oral histories).
Form of Collection
Born-digital and digitized works spanning all filetypes.
Emphasis
This project is dedicated to Bronx Community College and its borough of New York City. Specifically, we are focused on our college’s experience of the pandemic. Students and staff are prompted for submission and their work is given priority for curation.
Time Period
We curate works spanning the early months of the pandemic, through to now. A majority of items in our collection were initially created in 2020.
Public Access
The public can view and submit to our project via the JOTPY website, under the Bronx Community College New York portal:
