Shelter Island Historical Society

The Shelter Island Historical Society collects and preserves the artifacts, records, and stories that define the island's unique history. We welcome and connect our community by exploring our shared history through exhibits, research, educational programs, and performances.

The Society’s collection consists of maps, deeds, diaries, letters, photos, film, and other historical documents as well as artifacts including artworks, furniture, tools, textiles, vehicles, and housewares spanning the 17th through 21st centuries.

Shelter Island Historical Society encourages all to come and check out our exhibits in both the 1743 Havens House and the newly constructed History Center, and to join us for our many programs and events.
