Huntington Historical Society (Resource Center and Archives)

The Huntington Historical Society is the focal point for preserving the ongoing heritage of the Town of Huntington. It offers public education programs, maintains a museum collection, and a regional research center that promotes the preservation of historic materials, buildings and sites.

At the very core of the Society is the Resource Center and Archives (located on two floors of the historic Sewing and Trade School Building). The collection grows through the donations of materials of interest by local residents, and includes historical, genealogical, and archival materials concerning the Town of Huntington from 1653 to the present day. Researchers can find here photographs, family papers, business records, ephemera, oral histories, artifacts, maps, original documents, account books, materials on historic houses and neighborhoods, and other records relating to individuals, families, organizations, churches and cemeteries, and local businesses. A unique genealogical resource is the Veteran Survey conducted after WWI by Suffolk County which includes the name, branch of service, and parent names of servicemen. Another fun find is the unique vertical file collection on local bobsledding festivals held in the 1900s.
